Not sure what to say?

I remember Joe running in the neighborhood and tending his beautiful immaculate home garden on the corner of Poinsettia. He was always kind to me and my family. Wishing you and your family all the best. May your memories of him bring you comfort and peace.

I´m sorry to hear the news of Mr. Nelson´s passing. I remember his constant presence at Christian Music Center on Division Ave. My memory is that his desk overlooked the stairs that led down into the teaching studios. He facilitated the purchase of my first Buffet clarinet, which I still own & play on occasion for outdoor concerts. I´m so grateful! Also, I took clarinet lessons from his son Erik for a couple of summers when I was in junior high. As a former Blue Lake camper, I continue...

Joe was a friend both personally and professionally during our early years at Wyoming Rogers High School. Although we were not from Muskegon, my first teaching job was there. As such, Joe and I used to talk about the "old days" with the Muskegon Band and William Stewart. We are both saddened to hear of his passing and extend our deepest sympathies to June and the entire Nelson family.

rs. Nelson was my oboe teacher and Mr. Nelson was my reed supplier. I have so many wonderful memories of high school music thanks to both of them. I also remember working in the deli at the old D&W at 52nd and Eastern...Mr. Nelson would walk in the mornings and often be the first customer of the day. He always had a smile on his face. My heart goes out to Mrs. Nelson, Erik, Chris, and their families during this sad time.

What a gift to work with Joe. Always so upbeat and helpful. Just seeing Joe made one smile. He was a true treasure.

Joe was my private teacher in the early -mid 1970s, when he was Principal Clarinet with the GRSO. What a kind , friendly teacher he was . He truly had a gift for making lessons and practice a lot more enjoyable . I also remember his devotion to Blue Lake where I was a camper for a number of Summers. He and June were a special couple and have done so much for the fine arts in West Michigan! I was privileged to have studied under all three GRSO principal clarinets of the late 60s and the 70s,...

I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Nelson's passing. A father figure of my childhood, I remember him fondly as a man of great spirit and a love for life. He was a man of great character, honest, hard-working, and always doing the right thing - traits he and his wife have clearly passed on to their two sons. My most sincere condolences to June, Erik, Chris, and the entire family.
