My Uncle Joe was my father´s sister´s husband. He was very devoted to the idea of family and after my Aunt Sylvia passed away, he maintained strong contact with our side of the family. I was delighted to continue the relationship which blossomed into a friendship. Joe was an intelligent person with a lively sense of humor and an appreciation for the good things of life. My uncle Joe was my father's older brother and has a sapecial place in our family legend as the person responsible for introducing my parents to each other. He met my mother, Ethel B. Nichols, when they were both attending the University of Minnesota, and after she graduated and came to work in New York City he made sure she was invited to dinner at his parents' home.
