Joe - While you and I have never met, I'm so sorry for your loss. Your Dad, along with Leon Nelson and Dick Sutton at the Post Office were very positive influences on my early life - I appreciate all that "Mr.P" did for me.

So on Saturday, I decided to stop reading FB on a daily basis, making my goal once a week which means I missed your announcement. I just finished reading today's Democrat and saw where Uncle Vernon had made his transition and the funeral was this morning (great Cookie, you missed another one!). Oh Joe and Beth, I am so very, very sorry. I know he was such a large part of your lives. First Aunt Let, then Aunt Edie, now Uncle Vernon. Too many to fast. I just want you to know that you are all very much in my thoughts and prayers. I will always cherish the happy memories of the train village he had in the basement on Colonial Drive, the crazy sporadic family reunions, and his consistently gentle kind manner. He was a true southern gentleman, born and bred. God blessed you both with great parents, and it shows.

Vernon and his late wife were very special friends, and important leaders of Trinity United Methodist Church. We have lovely memories of our many times with them, for which we always will be grateful.

Dear Joe and Beth and families,Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Uncle Vernon was a man who loved his family and his church. He set a good example for all who knew him. He and Aunt Jamie were always welcoming and loving to my brothers and me, especially when we were in college. I know that you will always treasure many wonderful memories of both of your parents and the many good things they did for you and for others. We send you our love , Suzy and Joe Deslauriers
