Joseph F. Perisa, 86, long-time resident of Flint, passed away May 31 after a short battle with cancer. He is survived by his sister, Mary A. Perisa McNenly, nephew Peter F. McNenly (Dawn Cooper), nieces Stephanie Connolly (John Connally Sr.), Marsha Vollweiler, and grand- nephews Matthew J. McNenly (Tyler Webster McNenly), John Connally IV, Peter Casey McNenly, and grand-niece Amy Vollweiler. He is also survived by a loving circle of close friends.
Uncle Joe, as he was affectionately called by his family, was born August 13, 1929, the son of Peter Perisa and Maria Malinach Perisa. A graduate of the Flint schools, University of Michigan, and Columbia University, New York, Joe began his teaching career at Whittier Junior High, then went on to Mott Community College to teach history for many years. Joe served as a staff sergeant, U.S. Army 1953 through 1955.
Joe loved gardening, world travel, reading and being stumped by the New York Times crossword puzzles. He was an inquisitive, challenging, and provocative conversationalist. He will be missed by all.

A family celebration to honor Joe’s life will be held at a future date to be announced.
