I worked as a waiter at the Periscope in the 1980s when it was still run by Joe and Shirley and was one of the best restaurants in town. Joe was a great guy and more like a friend than a boss. Great to be around and work for. As a New Yorker like him it was a natural for us to get along well and I have fond memories of working there and of the delicious food he and Shirley created.
