Not sure what to say?

Had so much fun playing baseball with you our senior year at St. Ed´s. Then you were drafted by the Yankees in the summer draft. You were an amazing athlete. God bless you Joe.

Joe was larger than life in high school. A great athlete and all around nice guy. Joe had a great smile and was intimidating as a fullback on St. Ed´s football team and catcher on the baseball team. I believe Joe was also a wrestler and bowler. Joe was my catcher our senior year at St. Ed´s. I admired Joe and he gave me a lot of confidence. Later in life when Joe was being challenged physically and mentally, he reached out to me for help. I sponsored a fundraiser for Joe and many of the 1976...

To The Portale Family, My name is Robert Q. Baker. Joe and I were team mates, and football locker mates at Baldwin-Wallace College. Joe was my fullback as I played tailback. Together we played in Dr. Lee Trussel's last football season. I reside in SW Ohio "Springfield." Out of the blue my thoughts were of Super Joe Portale, so I searched for him in Google. I honestly wept when I read of his passing. Simply put we toiled together, sweat together, and blead together; while playing in...

My deepest sympathies to Patti and all of Joe's family. I last saw Joe at my dad's calling hours in 2008 and was saddened by the toll MS had taken on him. God rest his soul and bless his family.

Deepest sympathy to Joe´s family, he was a valued friend and team mate. His courage and warmth were inspirational to all who knew him. May he Rest In Peace. Thoughts and prayers to the family.

Oh Joe. St Brendan´s. Played football, baseball, all sorts of carrying on with Joe. I was smart enough not to get on the wrestling mat with him. He was so much bigger, faster, and better than all of us but never acted like it. Such a humble, sweet guy. I went to Ignatius, he went to Ed´s. Didn´t see him very often but whenever I did the world would stop and we would reconnect. For a while over the past few decades we would engage on Facebook. A lot of people pass through your life. But...

Sending my sincere condolences to Joe´s family.

My heartfelt prayers and condolences to Ross and the entire Family. Our parents met when I was very young and we lived in the same double on Phelps and the families became friends for years.

Prayers to all the family.Joe was a great athlete and it was always good bumping into him from time to time over the years. God bless you Joe.
