Joseph T. Rubulotta

AGE: 73 • Seaside Park

Joseph T. Rubulotta, 73, of Seaside Park, passed away on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Born in Newark, he lived in Colonia and summered in Seaside Park for 48 years before moving there permanently in 2002. Joe worked 42 years for Western Electric, AT&T and finally retired as an Operations Manager from Lucent Technologies in New York City in 2000. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Toms River.

Joe loved kayaking, boating, and just being on or near the water. His self taught ability to fix anything brought him great satisfaction and made him the "go to" person for friends and neighbors. He also loved photography and classic automobiles.

In retirement, his greatest joys became watching his granddaughter, Emma, play soccer and grandson, Kevin, race his sailboat. Joe also loved traveling and recently fulfilled his lifelong dream of visiting the small hillside town of Agira, Sicily. Home of his grandparents. Joe was a trusted friend, the kindest gentleman, and most devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was loved and will be missed by all.

Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Sallie (Hall) Rubulotta; a son, David Rubulotta and his fiance Erin Burnett of New York City; a daughter, Deanna Martin and her husband David of Colts Neck; one brother, Mario Rubulotta and his wife Patti of Kenilworth; and two grandchildren, Emma and Kevin Martin. He also leaves behind his dear Aunt, Phyllis Zappulla of Union; his sisters-in-law, Joan Keil and her husband Alfred, Nancy Minutoli and her husband Robert, nieces, nephews and many dear relatives and friends.

A light has gone out of our lives.

Visiting hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7 at Colonial Funeral Home, 2170 Highway 88, Brick. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 at the funeral home. Private cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or a charity of your choice.

Not sure what to say?

During my brief time as a temporary employee at AT&T in 1995, based at 5 Penn Plaza, I have vivid and fond memories of Joe. Although we lost touch after I left, a recent search brought me to the sad news of his passing. It's a testament to Joe's warm character and kind nature that, even in the short time I knew him, his memory stayed with me for years afterward. Grief doesn't have an expiration date, but I hope this message serves as a reminder of what a truly wonderful person Joe was, and...

To the Rubulotta Family

I had the distinct pleasure to work with your father while I was with Lucent in NYC. He was an amazing man, worker and friend. I always was impressed by his love for his family and fairness and humanity he demonstrated in dealing with others. I just learned of his passing today and his memory will live on with me.
