To the family of Joe Schaffernoth,

I have lived in Jacksonville, FL my entire life. Growing up in the sixties, my dad would take me to watch the Jacksonville Suns play. I was fascinatted with the double pump action of Joe and his famous fastball. Joe was a true hero of mine. Joe was a wonderfully kind and gregarious man who dealt with many years of adversity with incredible grace and dignity. He will be missed. Our deepest sympathy to the extended Schaffernoth family.

My most sincere sympathy to the Schaffernoth family........I have fond memories of having Mr. Schaffernoth's baseball cards in my collection and seeing him pitch on TV, particularly when he was with Cleveland against the Yankees, as I grew up in Cranford, NJ........I really did not realize that all this time, he was nearby in Berkeley Heights, also in Union County......May he rest in peace.........

I only got to spend a few hours with Joe, but it didn't take me long to figure out that I really, really liked him. I'll never forget the knowledge and kind words he imparted on me during our chat after dinner. He was a humble, brave, and loving man, and I feel lucky for having known him, even for a short time. My deepest condolences to his wife and family during this difficult time.
