One of the best directors I ever worked with and a good friend forclover fifty years.I so admired his encyclpedic knowledge of the theater,I will miss him and our frequent telephone chats.

My mother, Cleora, would have wanted me to send the family condolences. I did not know Mr. Stockdale but heard he was a talented professor. My mother was a fan.

I never met Mr Stockdale but his son David has been a wonderful friend for me and he spent a lot of time talking to his father about my work, and his father helped me as much as he could. His children and his whole family can be proud of his accomplishment. His life has been an example of what passion, work and knowledge can bring to others.

Joe Stockdale, an amazing man, father figure to me and friend. Our families have always been close since 1969. Joe helped me pass English when I was in high school. His son David and I traveled throughout the British Isles in 1970.The Old Man and The Sea by Ernest Hemingway was a favorite of Joe and soon became mine. I remember during that time he asked me to be in King Lear, a production at Purdue University he directed. It was just a small part and the day he asked me to show up for...
