Not sure what to say?

Joe and Maria were so welcoming to me when I was a post-doctoral fellow at Cornell in 1988-1990. I have fond memories of being invited with my family to their lovely home and going with them to concerts. An unforgettable memory: Joe reviewed a forthcoming journal article of mine and told me to edit out all uses of the word "very." He said something like: don't worry, your point will be stronger without it, just give it a try. He was so right. To this day I include that advice in my list of...

As a Cornell colleague l was privileged to work with Joe on some of his international projects during his long and distinguished career. He was the leader; I learned from him. We also served together on the board of the Cornell Association Professors Emeritus. I can testify that he was an outstanding professional but also a delightful person with whom to work. He made a major contribution to the life of Cornell and to those around him.

Maria and family: Prayers for strength and peace. I always enjoyed being with Joseph. We had many good talks. I'll remember him always.

I am shocked to hear news of the sad demise of Jo Stycos . He was a great personality, fearless person and could speak his mind in any situation. For six years I have sheared with him several committees / task forces formed by HRP, WHO Geneva. His contribution in these committees was always constructive, useful and stimulating. He will be always remembered for his contribution to population sciences and will be source to refer and remember him. God give peace to the departed soul
