Growing up on the Rez, Joe was the envy of the kids on the rez. He had the coolest guns and all we had were limbs broken off to look like guns. Funny, true story, nobody wanted to be Indian because we all had a chance to share Joe's guns as cowboys. Joe is in God's hands now, condolences to all his children.

Many memories of Joe during our school days and his kindness, manners, spirit and friendship. You have been thought of often and will remain in our thoughts today. Thinking of your children and family during this difficult time. Classmate, Ann Barnebee Peck. Athens Class of 1964

One of my strongest memories about Joe was when we were in the second grade. We had not started to learn cursive writing yet; but we were to go into the third grade classroom to watch a filmstrip. The Third Grade Room had the cursive alphabet posted all along the blackboard. Our teacher "warned" us ahead of time to NOT look at the cursive alphabet because we were not ready to learn that yet. Well Joe did not listen, and he perfectly copied the whole alphabet secretly while we were in the room....
