THOMAS, Joseph Louis - Of Burton, age 79, died Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at Genesys Regional Medical Center. Memorial service will be held 12:30PM Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor John Bridges officiating. Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery. Those desiring, may make contributions to the Shriners' Children's Hospital. Visitation 10AM-12:30PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Joseph was born in Flint on September 11, 1928, the son of the late George and Rosie Thomas. Mr. Thomas was a United States Marine Veteran. He was employed by Fisher Body, Grand Blanc for over 25 years. Joseph was also a member of Shriners of Davison, and belonged to Masonic Davison Lodge No 236, F.&A.M. Mr. Thomas was the author of "Grandma Survived the Titanic" Joseph was a loving husband, wonderful father and the kindest man that ever blessed our presence. Surviving are wife, Phyllis; sister, Emilie Stites, daughters, Kimberly Gazso, Clare (Robert) Pardee, son, Steven J.; 7 grandchildren, Jeffrey, William (Ashley), Jimmy (Tonie), Toni, (Robert), Tom (Courtney) Amber and Maygen; 4 great grandchildren; special friend, Beth Pardee; many nieces and nephews. I am so sorry to hear of Joe's death. I knew him as "Cousin Joe", because I was a next door neighbor to his Haddad cousins. He also was a member of the Retired Men's Fellowship, and we shared many stories and memories together. He was a real gentleman and friend.
