I never met Mr. Thomas but always felt blessed to know his son, Joe. How wonderful to have a son, and daughter, that give back to the community and help others as he did so well.

Julie, Joe, Jr. and Family
I am so sorry for your loss. Joe was a great gentleman, Hokie, and friend. It was a true privilege having known him. We met through our football adventures with John Rocovich. Joe treated me like a son giving sound advice and encouragement. Through "Big Joe" I had the opportunity to get to know Joe, Jr. a fine young businessman and friend. We can take joy knowing that when we get to Heaven we will have a friend there to great us. Our thoughts and prayers are...

Mr. Thomas was Chairman of the Board for First Virginia Bank Southwest for many years. He is remembered fondly as a true Virginia Gentleman. I always remember him having a huge smile and such an outgoing personality. I always looked forward to seeing him when he came into the bank. He will be missed not only by his family but his community and all those he touched by the example of the life he lived.

Julie and Joe Jr....I thought there was something else that needed to be said today. We hear references to 'the Greatest Generation' on the news, and by commentators today. Joe Sr. was probably the best example of 'the Greatest Generation' that I had the privilege to know. His service to his country, his devotion to family, his benevolence to his fellow man, and his commitment to God were traits that defined Joe Thomas. Our thoughts and prayers are with you....archie and kay thomasson

My condolences to all the family. I had the privilege of visiting Joe on many occasions during his stay at The Oaks. I never once heard him complain about anything. He was such a kind man. I'll miss him too.
