Walter J. Zalewski Funeral Home - 44th Street - Pittsburgh Obituary

Age 75, of Lawrenceville, passed away in the early morning on Thanksgiving November 27, 2025. Son of the late Joseph J. Skundrich and Helen (Hovanec) Skundrich. He is survived by his former wife, Diane (Turowski) Skundrich, his sons Joseph, Matthew, and Andrew Skundrich. Grandfather to Joseph, McKenna, Dominic, Demi, Logan and Gwendolyn. Brother of Joanne (Edward) Hoffman, William Skundrich, and Marilan (Sal) Caito.

Joe proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War as a Petty Officer Third Class aboard the USS Talare. He worked for many years as a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union 12 and worked throughout his life to provide for his family.

Though Joe could be described as stubborn and hardheaded at times, his deep love for his family was undeniable. He often expressed this love through his unwavering commitment to provide and give generously to his children and grandchildren. Joe also enjoyed the simple pleasure of catching up with friends and acquaintances over a shot and a beer.

Family and friends are welcomed at the WALTER J. ZALEWSKI FUNERAL HOME, 216 44th Street, Lawrenceville, on Monday, December 1, 2025 from 2-8 p.m. and Tuesday, December 2, 2025 from 12-6 p.m. Funeral Service at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at 5:30 p.m.

Not sure what to say?

Always think of you when 160 hits on the lottery

Dear Family of Tooters, we express our love and sympathy to Tooters family, children, grandchildren and former wife. So sorry we couldn’t attend the viewing. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. We enjoyed many jokes, talks and drinks with Tooters at VFW Post 214 and Conleys. He loved when I brought him red licorice, lollipops and gummy bears.

Peace to All of You,
Bob and Terry Miller

Joe was always a nice and respectful person to me. Always asked me to dance and always had a smile for me. He also always asked me how my son was, now sadly, he can ask him himself. Rest in heavenly peace my friend and give my son a big hug and kiss from me. ~i

I first met Toots at the VFW. I’d have a shot and beer with him whenever we’d run into each other. In all the years we knew each other, I never knew his first name, just Toots. He was a kind and gentle soul. Except when anyone brought up a certain politician. I will miss him! To his family, take care. May he rest in peace.

Diane & Family, I am sorry for your loss. I remember sluggish a few shots and beers with you guys. I’ll keep you all in my prayers.

The Lord watches over us all even in our pain, may His loving embrace bring you solace during this sad time. Matt, we are so sorry for your loss.

Joey , Andy , Matt and family , May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.
So sorry for your loss .
With love , Jenn , Mike and Family
