My deepest condolences, Gina and Maggie. Joe became department head shortly after I joined the faculty of the Agronomy and Soils Department in 1988 and was my trusted counsel for the next 25 years. He exemplified what a department head and a leader should be, someone you protected people assigned to his care, be they faculty, student, administrative staff, or laborer. I can truly say that I am a better person for having had Joe in my life. RiP, Joe.
