Joseph grew up and attended the Township’s schools leaving High School to join the U.S. Marines in World War II. He served the Pacific theater.

Upon his return from the service, he eventually started his own business, Joseph Varga Electrical Service, working for over 50 years. He taught his sons, grandson, and granddaughter when they worked with him.

Joseph built his own home that he lovingly decorated for all the holidays.  He participated in the Florence Township Patriotic Parade with his train “Little Toot” pulling his historical displays. He was honored by the Township in 2014 by being named Parade Grand Marshal.

Moriah Lodge #28, and the Roebling Garden Club.  He was on the School Board for 10 years and was President during the 1964 Wing Addition.  Joseph was an Elder and Chief Elder of the Hungarian Reformed Church of Roebling where he was a lifelong member.

Joseph was one of the “Friends of Roebling” who wrote the Arcadia books: Roebling and Roebling Revisited.  He was an instrumental member of the Roebling Garden Club that raised money for the statue of Charles G. Roebling that stands at the Roebling Circle.

Joseph was on the Advisory Board of the Bank of Mid-Jersey and the Burlington County Vocational School.

For 67 years, Joseph was a member of Mt. Moriah Lodge #28 serving as Master in 1965 and on the Grand staff as Junior Grand Deacon in 1979-1980. He was a member of the Scottish Rite.

Joseph was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Elizabeth Boros Varga, his wife, Doris, his daughter, Cherie, his sister, Mary, her husband, Paul, and their son, George Tobias.

Not sure what to say?

My Dearest Varga Family,

I am so sorry, I just learned of Joe's passing this Sunday morning while surfing the Internet. I've known Joe, and all of the Varga family, all my life and I don't know where to start with sharing with you how sorrowful I am for your loss - for our loss, really. I hope all of us find strength to keep going, the kind of quiet strength that Joe had. He knew how to keep moving forward one small step at a time to get through such pain. Know that I love all of...

Dear Connie and Varga family,
I am very sorry to hear about Joe. He was always a real gentleman. I first met Joe in May 1986 when I entered Mt. Moriah Lodge. He was the type of person that made you feel comfortable to be around and he had the ability to easily bring a smile to your face. Joe was full of interesting and amusing stories and I always looked forward to hearing them. I am honored to have known him and he will be missed. I offer you my thoughts, prayers, and well-wishes during...

Joe and entire Varga family - I remember your dad well, from work he did for my parents at home and at Johnson's General Store. He was a wonderful guy -- and my Dad particularly enjoyed dealing with him. (I think they may have been on the Board of Education together as well.) My condolences to you all.
