Joseph Wingerter, 83, Mandan, died April 6, 2014 at Good Samaritan Care Center in Mott surrounded by his loving family. Requiem Mass will be held at 10:00 am CST on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at St. Michael’s Traditional Catholic Church, 210 5th Ave NW, Mandan, ND with Father Michael Harber as presiding Priest. Burial will be at St. Philomena’s Catholic Cemetery in Selfridge. Visitation will be held Friday, April 11, 2014 from 1:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Joseph was born on September 23, 1930 to Quinton and Philomena (Glas) Wingerter in Selfridge, ND. He was raised and educated in the Selfridge area and later attended Wahpeton State College of Science where he studied the electrical field. As a young man he worked at the Wingerter Dance Hall where he met the love of his life, Agnes Schneider. They were married on November 22, 1951 at St. Philomena’s Catholic Church in Selfridge. They made their home in Mandan and he worked for the Railroad from 1952-1955. After 1955 he and Agnes spent the winters in Casper, Wyoming where he worked in the oil fields. During the summer they would return to Selfridge to farm which he did until 1990. From 1955 to 1981 he also did custom harvesting. Additionally from 1960 -1972 he owned and operated the Wishing Well Supper Club in Selfridge. Joseph was always a workaholic and didn’t have much time for hobbies. He was known to be a perfectionist. He enjoyed watch westerns on television and listening to Country Music. After his sons moved to Alaska he enjoyed joining them on numerous fishing trips. Family was always first and foremost in Joseph’s life. He looked forward to holidays when the family would gather together. He loved his grandchildren and they will miss his playful teasing. Joseph will be remembered by his family as a kind and generous man with a great sense of humor. Joseph will be deeply missed by his devoted and ever caring wife of 62 years, Agnes; daughters, Dawn (Dean) Friedt, Mott and Constance (Mike) Eckert, Bismarck; sons, Tim (Rosemary), Fairbanks, Alaska, Bob (Carol), Alexandria, MN, Carold (Cheryl), Wilton, ND, Jay, Jamestown, Ted (Lilia), North Pole, Alaska and Dean (Lisa), Bismarck; 36 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; sister, Ann Coyle, Mandan; sister-in-law, Bernadine Wingerter-Tosseth, Bismarck and numerous nieces and nephews. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Katie (Tony) Heid, Mary (George) Schaefbauer, Margaret (Tom) Lauinger (Lloyd) Smested and Frances (George) Berrett; brothers, Anton, Leo (Marge), Pete (Ruth) and Conrad.
