Josephine Mary Ballato, 91, of Supply passed away Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017.
Mrs. Ballato was born Oct. 25, 1925, in the Bronx, N.Y., the daughter of the late Antonio and Raffaella Ruggiero. She was raised in the Bronx, moved to Queens in 1968 and then to Brunswick County in 1994. Mrs. Ballato had a great sense of humor and was known to tell it like it is. She loved entertaining, cooking great meals, but most of all she loved her family. Mrs. Ballato was a member of St. Brendan the Navigator Roman Catholic Church and had been active at the Senior Center for 17 years. Mrs. Ballato was preceded in death by her husband, Rocco Ballato; a brother; and a sister.
Survivors include her four daughters, Barbara Commisso and husband, Salvatore, of Bellerose, N.Y., Susan Ballato and husband, Wayne Melton, of Supply, Joann Ballato of Supply and Judy Chetri of Ozone Park, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren, Lisa Torborg and husband, Scott, Michael Commisso, Mark Stanford, Jason Stanford, Julia Melton, Laura Melton-Baylor and husband, Richard, Wayne Melton and wife, Cassie, Stephanie Chetri, Christina Chetri and Jennifer Chetri; and eight great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Kyle, Gianna, Sean, Patrick, Trisha, Katelyn and Victoria.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, at St. Brendan the Navigator Roman Catholic Church in Shallotte. The family will have visitation from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, at White Funeral and Cremation Service in Supply. The burial will be in the Pine Lawn Memorial Park in Farmingdale, N.Y.
