Manning-Heffern-O’Neill Funeral Home - Pawtucket Obituary

Josephine C. (Damiani) Lama, 95, passed away peacefully with her grandchildren by her side on the morning of Saturday, April 12, 2025. She was the loving wife of the late Frank Paul Lama. A life-long resident of Pawtucket, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Assuntina (Paoli) Damiani.

Josephine was the mother of Wayne S. Lama. She was predeceased by her sons, Paul F. Lama and Barry T. Lama. She was the grandmother to Robert Kairnes of Shrewsbury, MA and Paul Lama, Tina Church, and Angela Mullen, of Warwick. Josephine was the great grandmother of Bradley Kairnes, Benjamin Kairnes, Jamison Mullen, Jaxson Mullen, Emerson Church, Gentry Church and Davina Church. She is survived by her sister Carol Dick (Robert), her sister-in-law Jane Damiani, and her daughter-in-law Claudia Lama. Josephine was predeceased by her sisters, Lena Taylor (Clyde), Doris Proulx (Lionel), Pauline Dulieu (George), and her brother Robert Damiani.

A woman ahead of her time, Josephine worked for over five decades at Independent Square Foundation as a secretary, only being forcefully pressured to retire due to the global pandemic of 2020. She was also an active member of Holy Family Parish (St. Joseph’s Church) serving as Eucharistic Minister and Lector for many years.

Her passion and devotion to helping others was extraordinary. In earlier years, she enjoyed spending time baking beautiful cakes, cooking homemade meals, and was always delighted to host and attend family gatherings. Josephine was also an avid organ and piano player and enjoyed traveling with her siblings to Poland Springs.

Relatives and Friends are kindly invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, April 21st at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Parish, 195 Walcott St., Pawtucket. Burial will immediately follow at Mt. St. Mary’s Cemetery, Pawtucket.

Visiting hours will be held, prior to the Mass, on Monday, April 21st from 8:30-10:30 AM, in the Manning- Heffern-O’Neill Funeral Home, 220 Cottage Street, Pawtucket.

Not sure what to say?

With my deepest sympathy to you Wayne on the loss of your beautiful mother.
How my parents enjoyed her weekly visits for mass at their table with Father McElroy, of course, my father would also welcome her delicious baked goods.

Her soul has entered heaven in the holiest of weeks...may Mrs. Lama Rest in Eternal Peace in the loving embrace of our Savior.

Respectfully, Maryann (Conti) Ricci

It is with a very heavy heart to have lost such a beautiful lady, neighbor and beloved friend. Our lives were so intertwined bringing up our families! She was a very talented special person. I will miss her dearly.
She is now resting gently in God's loving arms and richly deserved rest. It was what she longed for. May God bring the same peace and comfort from grief to her wonderful family.
