Josephine and I worked together when I was a young woman, beginning my career as a librarian. She was a straight shooter--- ready with a wink and no holds barred commentary. I was so impressed with her bravery-- travelling Europe on her own as a young woman and living a life that seemed fully hers. She was someone who made an impression, and I will remember her fondly! Also--- she taught me how to fold the New York Times the real New Yorker way! How many people still know that?!

I am just now learning of Jo's death by reading my computer. I am very sorry. I knew her very well between 1954 and 1957. We taught together in Tokyo, Clark Air Base, Philippines, and Germany. We traveled everywhere together. The summer of 1956 we took a 6-week tour of the Far East - all the way to India. We traveled in the States a few times. I married in 1965 and lost track of her.
