Macagna-Diffily-Onorato Funeral Home - Rutherford Obituary

Josephine Monti, (nee) Scodellaro, 102 years old of Rutherford, N.J. on Thursday March 4, 2021, at home  surrounded by love. She was born in West New York, where she lived until she married her beloved husband Mario, who preceded her in death (2009).
Josephine was a gifted pianist and organist for over 70 years and played at several local churches including Visitation in Paramus and St. Margaret’s in Little Ferry. She also performed at various restaurants and clubs in and around North Jersey and NYC and was a noted accompanist who played at the Garden State Ballet (Rutherford) school.
Josephine was never one to be shy when it came to music. If there was a piano wherever she was, she (usually asked) would sit down and play. If a gathering was quiet she would have her husband get the accordion from the car and start entertaining the crowd.
Josephine was also a Hospice volunteer for Hackensack Medical Center for 25 years and was willing to help anyone when asked.
Devoted mother to Angela (Kenneth) DeFilippo, Elisa (Michael) Sorensen, Patricia Flack, and Mario  Monti. Loving grandmother (Nonni) to Gina Volcy, Joseph Sorensen, James Sorensen  and Kristina DeLuca; Marc and Matthew DeFilippo and Noelle Flack. Cherished great grandmother (Great Nonni) to Gianna and Isabella Volcy, Rosabella DeLuca and Simon DeFilippo.

Not sure what to say?

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to your family. My memories of Aunt Josephine include how she could take my family's simple organ and make it sound like we were in a concert hall. I recently listened to recordings when your family visited our house and all the fun we had singing along with the music she played (especially Mario's rendition of Winchester Cathedral!).
Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May your memories of your mom sustain you during this sad time.
