Nash, Josephine “Josie”

(Nee Byrne). Born January 11, 1923, in Dublin, Ireland, the daughter of the late William and Josephine (nee Larkin) Byrne. Passed away August 24, 2002 at the age of 79 years. Preceded in death by her husband Kit, and her brothers, William, Richard and Sean. Dear mother of Nina Nash (John) Robertson of Mt. Pleasant, MI and Kieran (Julie) of Milwaukee. Loving grandmother of Jennifer and Connor. Dear sister of Anne (Jack) Goral of Milwaukee and Phyllis Wearen of Dublin. Dear sister-in-law of Maura Callan of Dublin. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends in the United States and Ireland.

Memorial Mass Thursday, August 29, 2002 at 7 PM at ST. PATRICK CATHOLIC CHURCH (7th and Washington Street) with the Rev. Michael W. Maher, S.J., officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday at the Church from 6 PM until time of Mass. Private interment.

Josie was very active in the Irish community in Milwaukee. She was a founding member of the Shamrock Club of Wisconsin, which honored her in 1997 as the “Irish Rose”. For 25 years, Kit and Josie were the proprietors of Nash’s Irish Castle at 13th and Lincoln Avenue. Following Kit’s death in 2000, the Kit and Josie Nash Irish Choral Music Collection was established at the John J. Ward Irish Music Archives.
