Josephine G. Richardson (age 98) formerly of Westfield and Pennington, NJ and more recently coastal Maine, passed away on November 1, 2017. She was born in 1919 in Syracuse, NY, the oldest of three children of Anna Latocha Galaska and Alex Galaska. Growing up in a Polish neighborhood of East Syracuse, she and her brothers learned the value of hard work as her parents developed several grocery and tavern businesses. Josey claimed that she aced the NY Regents exam which paved entrance to the Syracuse University School of Home Economics. She graduated in 1941 with a BS degree, specialty in Dietetics/Nutrition. Later that year, she accepted a position at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. In one year she became certified in nutrition and pursued a short successful career at both Beth Israel and Mass General hospitals. Additionally, she served as an assistant to the renowned Dr. Joscelyn, treating diabetic men and women.
Josey met a young med student and married Carlos E. Richardson in Boston in 1944. Shortly after WWII his service in the Army medical corps ended and they located to Holyoke, MA. Over 38 years they moved several times as Carlos was promoted within E.R. Squibb & Sons. After living in Westfield for 10 years, and sending two sons to college, they relocated to Pennington in 1972. She established another successful career as a real estate agent in Princeton, retiring in 1986 and making a final move to the Maine coast.
Josey was married for 58 years and predeceased by Carlos in 2002.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, three grandchildren and their spouses and three great-grandchildren.
Her ashes will be interred in the columbarium of All Saints' Episcopal Church, Scotch Plains, NJ next to her husband. Services have been provided by Rossi Funeral Home in Scotch Plains, NJ.
