Dear Vanessa, Thinking of you during this difficult time. My prayers are with you and your family.

Earth & Sky Memorial

Dr. Flood: Faye and I were saddened to hear about the passing of your sister. We didn't know her personally, even though we did meet her, but because of the great character your parents instilled in you, we feel like we know her. Please know that you are in our thoughts and we pray that God gives you the strength to endure this very painful process. If we can provide any assistance at all please ask. Go with God our good friend. Bill & Faye McNeal

The description of Mrs. Whiting's personality as being selfless, loving, caring, wise, witty, and fun-loving was so true. In addition to Yvonne's sentiments, she was a friend and mentor. My heart aches and I'll never forget her.

I remember fondly my years at John Marshall with Josephine Whiting. She was engaged and helpful and always had a sense of humor. Her life was obviously a blessing to her many friends, students and family as well as to her alma mater. We were blessed to work with her and will always cherish the memories.

Mrs. Whiting was my favorite teacher. She treated me as a child of her own, along with my girlfriend, Linnette Monroe Shelmire. She took us to her home on weekends and was responsible for us learning to play tennis. She made a hot potato salad which we had never had before, but we loved it. She was extremely fond of us and we of her. The world has lost and outstanding lady who loved children and taught them to love themselves. She will be greatly missed.

My deepest condolences on the loss of your mother, grandmother and friend Mrs Josephine Whiting. I attended John Marshall High School 1976-1979, and was privileged. As a student, to know Mrs Whiting and be guided by her. She saw the best in young black kids who were striving to be successful. Much of what she taught her family at home, she taught young kids at school. I will always cherish her presence and the guidance and support she provided many at John Marshall/Marshall-Walker H.S. My condolences to the family. I worked with Ms. Whiting at John Marshall and she was truly the quintessential professional. To know her was to respect and love her. Her accomplishments were many and her kindness will always be remembered by me. I feel blessed to have been a young teacher that worked under such a caring and knowledgeable Assistant Principal, Ms. Whiting. She was a principal with principles. May she rest in peace above. God bless her and her beloved family.

To Bernard and Vanessa, my deepest condolences to you and your family. I always thought your mom was sooooo Classy and Cool. I always enjoyed seeing your mom,y mom, Dot Lee, and Mrs. Barr get together after church. In my childish eyes then, they were the "Classy Women" of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. May God continue to hold each of you in His Everlasting, Comforting Arms..
