Josephine Witt (nee: Grasso), 86, of Haddam, CT departed this life Monday, January 13, 2014 at home surrounded by family. She was born June 1, 1927 in Philadelphia, PA. She grew up in South Jersey, and moved to Norwich, CT where she raised her family and had her professional sewing business. She started sewing as a teenager for her teachers and her passion for fashion carried on throughout her life and continues in some of her line. Josephine never hesitated to give of herself to those in need. She was a world traveler, who loved to meet new people and take every opportunity to live life to the fullest. She is fondly remembered by those who had the pleasure to meet her. Her family was the most important thing in her life, followed closely by the New York Yankees. She is survived by daughters Deborah Witt, Jacqueline Witt Grassia and husband Robert of Haddam, CT; son Wilbur W. Witt, Jr and wife Kimberly of Myrtle Beach, SC; wonderful grandchildren Jennifer, Adam, Steven, James, and Josephine; sisters Frances Gilbert, Sandy Carnuccio and husband Frank, brothers Tommy Grasso and wife Angie, Veto Grasso, Nicky Grasso, Carmen Grasso and wife Sheilagh; and many nieces and nephews whom she adored. She was predeceased by her oldest daughter, JoAnne, and former husband and close friend Wilbur W. Witt Sr, as well as brother Joseph Grasso, sisters Angie Bertonazzi, Mary Maccarone, Millie Waldner, and Katie Bregler. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 25th at 1:00 pm at Brooklawn Funeral Home, Rocky Hill, CT with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Connecticut Hospice, www.hospice.com, in Memory of Josephine Witt.
