Loving New York Living
Joshua M. Piver spent his summers on the water, working at a boat yard in his hometown of Stonington, Conn., and sailing and kayaking every chance he got. His friends remember him as someone who stayed calm in all sorts of situations. "I'm the only person who ever caused him to lose his temper, and that's because I was trying to," said David Wilson, who met him in the fourth grade, went through the University of Vermont with him and was set to live with him in Brooklyn last fall. Socializing with Mr. Piver was always deflating, he added: "He was tall, extremely good-looking, and girls never talked to me when he was around."
He graduated in 2000 with a degree in economics and went to work at Cantor Fitzgerald, on the 105th floor of 1 World Trade Center. He traded pollution credits and energy credits for a TradeSpark subsidiary, said his sister, Erica.
His passions ranged from jazz and the movie "Dr. Strangelove," to food. "He loved living in New York and going to restaurants and going to movies and all of those things," said Rebecca Stevens, a friend. "He was just so excited about everything."
I still think about you all the time. You are missed.

Thinking of Josh, his smile and sense of humor we shared at the boatyard.

Like so many others that may not have known you but saw your name or memorial, the pull to find out more is strong. In Stonington on a vacation trip we came across your memorial. Seeing it made me realize I didn't have to know you to understand how special you were to the world. Thank you for the time you gave us.

We visited the 9/11 memorial this week. For whatever reason I took a picture of my sons in front of the memorial pool. Your name was there clear as day. We didn’t know you but we honored you and your dear family. I am sorry for your loss as I can’t imagine the heartache of that day and all that have followed.

The years have gone by Eric and i wish u had been here to go through it with me. Will always remember our freshman year in our little dorm room, and our time in nyc while you were with us.

Your name jumped out at me because my son's name is Joshua Michael. I decided to look you up and was shocked to see that you loved the water and worked in the boatyards. My Josh has just left to go to school at the Naval Academy and loves the boats and water so much he felt compelled to go there. I am sorry that your life was cut so short, you sound like you were so loved and admired by so many. Rest in Peace.

I never met you, Josh, but you interned with my ex-husband at PSEG. He spoke highly and fondly of you, and I say your name every year on this day in your memory. May you and all who lost their lives on 9/11 rest in eternal peace.
