BRUBAKER, Joshua Patrick McGrain, age 42, passed away at his home in Flint, Michigan on Saturday, November 07, 2015 following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on April 30, 1973 in Flint, Michigan Joshua lived in a number of cities including Swartz Creek, Flint, Clarkston, and Rochester Hills at various points in his life, returning to Flint two years ago to purchase a home in the College-Cultural area. Joshua loved his cats, art and architecture, particularly stately older homes, and was adept at residential refurbishment and redecorating. He was an artist whose charcoal sketch of Knole Cottage in Rochester Hills graced the cover of a recently-published book entitled, ?Hilltop Lodge: Frances? Birthday Celebration?. A graduate of Flint Central High School, he attended Mott Community College on an academic scholarship.

His is survived by his loving family and his partner of many years, Tracy Brooks of Flint; mother Dr. Debra Kay Taylor and step-father Jay R. Taylor of Clarkston; father Wayne G. Brubaker of Swartz Creek; ?Sister Bear? Tara B. Taylor and her husband Peter Kalinowski of Royal Oak; half-sisters Stephanie and Aimee Brubaker of Swartz Creek; and beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John M. and Ava N. McGrain of Flint, and James E. and Joan P. Taylor of Wyoming, Michigan. Not sure what to say?

I know Josh because his sisters Stephanie and Aimee Brubaker are my first cousins. His parents Wayne and Marie Brubaker are my uncle and aunt. My most vivid memories of Josh are from when we were all young. He was 10 years older than me, and I remember always thinking he was so cool. Growing up Josh would come to our holiday family gatherings, he'd humor the younger kids (his sisters and their cousins) by playing on the floor with the new toysMy Little Ponies come to mind. He was a good...

I know Josh from his time at the Olive Garden. He mostly worked mornings and was usually a opener. While everyone else came in looking and feeling like they had no energy and just didn't want to be there. Then there was Josh. He came in to work actually excited to be there. He always had the biggest smile from the time he came in till the moment he left. It seems like it was every day he got a guest complement about his great attitude and exceptional service. If you needed some one to talk to...

Dearest Marie, Bru, Aimee & Stephanie,
We are so terribly sorry to hear the sad news of Joshua's recent passing. Although we did not know him personally I am sure he was a caring, kind person - just like the 4 of you. Know that you are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Love you, Sheila & Bill

My sympathy goes out to your family and friends during this time of sorrow. May God's loving kindness comfort you and help you through this difficult time(Psalms 119:50,76).

I forgot to fill in my name in the
message I sent yesterday.

Josh was someone who showed me that I was love able and worthy of love through his words art and presence in my life. He showed me the beauty in life and the arts and maybe that is what influenced us to get matching Chinese beauty tattoos.
Some of my favorite memories are when he jumped in the flint fountains for me to take pictures of him for my photography class, and when he stripped down and climbed a tree for my photos that were in my BFA show. He was spontaneous like that And I...

Kay, I am so sorry about Josh. I will always remember his gentle manner and sweet smile. My thoughts are with you.

I knew Joshua as Wayne Brubaker's son and Marie Prendergast Brubaker's step son. I am Wayne and Marie's brother-in-law. Josh would participate in holiday family gatherings at the Prendergast and Brubaker homes. I remember Josh as a polite, good looking boy and watched him mature into a young man. He was loved by all of his family members. He is missed. Rest in peace.
