The photograph of the man on beach (see below) was taken by Joshua, and a print was given to me around 1968. It still hangs on the wall in our Berkeley house.

There is a photo that was included in the spiral-bound Rolling Stones 1774 Book of Days. It shows a boy and girl sitting in a restaurant or diner. Does anyone recognize the boy and girl and know when Joshua took this and where? I am haunted by these people - I'm pretty sure they went to my high school. Thanks!

48 years ago Joshua Bersin and Joshua Freiwald connected at La Rondella in the mission. Joshua Bersin was on his way to be a mensch {13 years to be bah mitzvahed}
The bonding included Dick, Lillie Braudy Bersin and Adam younger son and New West magazine. Because of Joshua Freiwald's intelligence charm and charisma he wrote up and photographed our big wild bah- mitzvah day also the last moment bah mitzvah of Dick Bersin the father including the days before into a wonderful story....

Very sad news indeed when an old friend dies. I knew Joshua in the 1960s, when his gold standard architecture photographs were in every major mag and his studio in San Francisco was a stopping off place for every professional photographer passing through the City. He was full of stories, brash, opinionated, and very funny. It was a pleasure to spend time with him and I'm so sorry that it won't be possible to do that again. My sincere condolences to his family.

I met Joshua in Brooklyn in the 1950s where he frequented the poetry salon of Gil Sorrentino the novelist. That was before he went to California. One of his closest friends over the years was Joe Martinez of San Antonio who died last year. They took many trips together to Mexico and elsewhere.
