Joshua Michael Stahl was born on January 16, 1982, in Elkhart, Indiana. A cherished son, he was one of three children to the union of Jon “Doug” Stahl and Judy (Roe) Stahl. He graduated from NorthWood High School in Nappanee with the Class of 2000.
With a passion for serving others, Josh dedicated himself to emergency medical services, earning certifications as both a firefighter and paramedic. He showcased his commitment to the community working as a paramedic in Indiana prior to relocating to Monroe, Michigan where he took the same position with Monroe Community Ambulance. He was an integral member of the Disaster Medical Assistance Team OH-1, where he offered his expertise and compassion in times of need.
Beyond his professional dedication, Josh had a zest for life that was infectious. He was passionate about his koi pond, collecting signs, and he enjoyed spending time honing his skills at the shooting range. His love for adventure led him to travel the world professionally and personally, and he always made time for fishing with “the guys”. His friendships were a testament to his warmth and generosity as he never missed a chance to connect with people he had met along the way. He would call and talk for hours, he would video chat with his nieces and nephews, and he loved sending funny videos via FB Messenger. His DMAT and Fire/EMS adventures led to many new experiences and lifelong friendships which were paramount in his life.
Known for his incredible sense of humor, Josh had a unique ability to brighten anyone’s day. He made lifelong friends wherever his journey took him and he valued each relationship deeply. Although he did not have children of his own, Josh embraced the role of a loving and devoted father figure to his fiancée Sandra’s daughter, Elena, who brought immense joy to his life.
Joshua Michael Stahl, aged 43, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 29, 2025. Following his passing, Josh continued to be a hero in our community by providing the Gift of Life through tissue and bone donation. To cherish his memory, he leaves his loving fiancée, Sandra Gay; a cherished daughter, Elena Tcaci; his beloved parents, Doug and Judy Stahl; two siblings, Amanda Stahl and Jeremy (Alexa) Stahl; ten nieces and nephews: Gabbi Stahl, Maverick Stahl, Easton Stahl, Mary Ann Sword, Thomas Oley, Brook (Scott) Woodward, Wesley and Navy Ball, Adam and Emily McConocha; sister-in-law Sherri (Ken Meyerholtz) Oley, and brother-in-law Joseph (Bobbi McConocha) Geyman II. He was preceded in death by his wife Ashley (Schaefer) Stahl on June 29, 2008.
There will be a public Celebration of Life on Saturday May 31st at the Nappanee Missionary Church. Friends may call for one hour prior to the 11 am service. Pastor Terry Bley will officiate. Services are through Thompson-Lengacher and Yoder Funeral Home of Wakarusa.

I have such fond memories of growing up with Josh, swimming for the Wa-Nee Waves and then on the high school team. He constantly had us all laughing. It was his superpower. I am so sorry to hear of this unexpected loss, and my sincerest condolences to the entire Stahl family.
