Joyce M. CARUSO
March 15, 1925 - February 9, 2015
Joyce M. Caruso, age 89, passed away peacefully in Seattle on February 9, 2015. Joyce was born in Seattle on March 15, 1925. She graduated from Ballard High School in 1942, valedictorian of her class. In October 1942 she met her future husband, Gene Caruso at a USO dance. They were married on January 20, 1945 and had two sons, Larry (1945) and Steven (1950).
Joyce and Gene lived in the same house in Ballard for 54 years.
Joyce was a proud homemaker who made a loving, nurturing home for her family to develop and thrive. She oversaw the intellectual and physical development of her boys and allowed them to experience and grow through a wide variety of interests. She was actively involved in her boys' education and school activities. In addition she allowed her boys to experience a variety of sports, music lessons and outdoor camping adventures. Joyce was always an active participant in her sons' families' lives doing whatever she could to make a better, happy life for her entire family. Joyce was also a wonderful grandmother to her sons' children, always available to help out and babysit whenever she could.
Joyce and Gene were blessed to have a wonderful circle of friends through their involvement in West Ballard Little League and other Ballard community activities.
In 1960, Joyce went back to work and spent 25 years teaching accordion lessons and working in the office for Stan Boreson's Music Studio in Ballard, later known as Scandia Music.
Joyce was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Gene (10/9/2012).
She is survived by her two sons, Larry (Trish) and Steven (Janet); grandchildren, David (Kelly), Chris (Jason), Carmen (Josh), Brian (Katy); and five great grandchildren, Alexis, Nick, Michael, Tre and Lee.
The family will be holding a private memorial to celebrate Joyce's life.

Steve,
I am sorry for the loss of your mother. Find comfort in remembering the good times you had with her. Now I know how you became such a great accordion player.

Steve and Larry - condolences on Joyce's passing. I'm lucky to have been connected to the Caruso/Pedersen family for so many years, and to have spent many family gatherings getting to know Joyce and Gene. She was always so interested to hear what everyone was doing, and loved gathering with family. I looked forward to chatting with her during those fun times - and I know you'll remember those days fondly.
