Joyce Elaine Crowe (Nee Schavey), age 84, of Portage passed away Thursday April 24, 2014 in the St. Mary Medical Center. Joyce was born September 18, 1929 in Hobart to the Late Carl and Doris (Rowe) Schavey. Joyce taught first grade at Gary Lutheran School for 5 years and then at Solon-Robinson Elementary School for 22 years prior to retirement in 1994. She was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hobart.
Joyce is survived by three children, Pamela (Ivan) Hiestand of Hobart, Jeffrey Blatz of Ft. Meyers Beach, FL, and Elaine (Mike) Vucelich of Portage; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Doris (Dave) Leonard of Hobart, Janet Harding of Indianapolis and Gail (Greg) Myatt of Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Robert Crowe; parents; a brother Carl Schavey and sister Audrey Franko.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 am Saturday April 26, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church Chapel 900 Luther Drive, Hobart, IN 46342 with Rev. Gary S. Nagy officiating. Joyce was cremated. Rees Funeral Home assisted Joyce's family with services.
