In the 1950s & 60s, Upper Afton Road was still out in the country. "Mrs. Fernlund" was one of our many moms up and down the mile long stretch of road. (Out of respect, we only used formal names for parents.) She was always kind, caring and welcoming. If I close my eyes, I can still see her cheerful face and hear her gentle laugh.
