Habing Family Funeral Home Obituary

Joyce B. Hall of Gilroy passed away unexpectedly on November 8, 2023, at the age of 92. Born in 1931 in Vancouver, Washington, Joy was the only child of Ross and Tressa Trieman and was raised in the Vancouver/Camas area of Washington. She attended Camas High School and was a member of the school marching band, playing the clarinet, that performed at the Pasadena Rose Bowl Parade in 1949. Joy graduated from the University of Oregon with a bachelor’s degree in Biology in 1953. She was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority, and met her future husband David P. Hall on a blind date set up by one of her sorority sisters. Joy and Dave celebrated 70 years of marriage this past July.

Joy was a dedicated and supportive mother to her three children, Richard, Steven and Kathy. She raised her family, along with husband Dave in Antioch, California before moving to Gilroy in 1977. Her extended family grew through the years, and she embraced the role of mother-in-law to Johnna (Carbone-Manna) Hall, Susan (Lawrence) Hall and Barry Raymond, and became a proud grandma to Matthew, Brian, Jeffrey, Danielle, Stephanie, Bowen, Tyler and Alexandra, and great grandchildren Annika, Hudson, Asher, Sara Rivka, Bracha, Moshe, Beckett, Brooks, Declan, Dylan, Tyson, Quinn, Oliver and Milo.

Joy was a stay at home mom during her children’s school-aged years and enjoyed attending their athletic and academic endeavours. She was a member of the local Women’s Club and was an avid Bridge player. In later years she was active in several community organizations including Women in Touch, St. Joseph’s Family Center Food Pantry and PEO, an international organization with a primary focus of providing educational opportunities for female students worldwide. She worked for several years at the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce as the administrative assistant to the Chamber director.

Joy was a talented seamstress and made many of her own clothes as well as her daughter’s school and doll clothes. She liked to garden and read, and loved spending summer evenings in the backyard with family and friends. For many years Joy and Dave traveled the country in their Alpenlite 5th wheel, including spending a summer in Alaska with their travel friends. They also enjoyed square dancing with the Gilroy Gliders, wearing matching dresses and shirts Joy sewed for Dave and herself.

Joy will be deeply missed by her family and friends. A celebration of her life will be held at the Presbyterian Church of Gilroy (6000 Miller Avenue) on Friday, November 17, 2023 at 2:00pm.

Not sure what to say?

Joy was my boss when I worked after school at the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce. I was just remembering her the other day. She was such an elegant and classy lady. It's been over 44 years since I've seen Joy but I remember her clearly to this day. She made a lasting impression on me. Condolences to the family.

So sorry to hear of Joy's passing. She was a friend and fellow square dancer. My sympathies to the family and especially Dave....

Rich and Johnna and the Hall family. We are so sorry for your family's loss. May you have the strength to get through this difficult time. Love Bob and Izzy
