Mrs. Joyce McMiller Laws, age 94, a beloved figure of both Gary and Hammond, Indiana, sadly
left our world on October 3, 2024, after a life richly lived in service, wisdom, and kindness. 


She was born to parents Elijah and Ollie McMiller on April 5,1930, in Mariana, Arkansas and was
raised by her godparents, Marshall and Mamie Stearns.


Known for teaching in the Hammond School City System for 32 years, Joyce was a beacon of light and hope in our community,
touching lives through her teaching, involvement in church, friendship, and her raising of her 9
children; Marshall, Devoed, Gloria, Deborah, Jacqueline, Joanne, Joyce, Johnny, and Mamie.



Joyce had a strong relationship with faith shown by her membership of Mount Zion M.B. Church
in Hammond, IN and New Revelation M.B. Church in Gary, IN where she served at New
Revelation as an usher for many years and was a member of the Ruth Circle
