Joyce loved film but she could write about anything and get the reader's full attention. She was a great observer of detail who communicated what she saw and heard with ease, never made a fuss about writing. Just a nice person, too.

Her family lived up the block on S. Clinton Ave - all were the nicest people. Her Dad (Mr. Persico) was a cabbie. Whenever he saw me walking by myself, he's stop and give me a ride to home. "Joycey" as the kids on the block knew her, was just as nice. We spoke by phone recently and she hadn't changed. Her passing truly saddens me.

Joyce was a newsroom "pro." There really wasn't any reporting or writing assignment she couldn't handle. Her expertise, of course, was movie reviews and it was here that she excelled. Joyce's reviews, in fact, were so vivid and well written that movie-going regulars often claimed there wasn't any need for them to go see the film. A talented lady indeed, RIP.
