Joyce Ann Samons

Joyce Ann Samons, 72, of Ironton, formerly of South Point, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2013 at her residence. The Lawrence County, Ohio native was born March 22, 1941, the daughter of the late Ernest and Verna Massie Shafer. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roland J. Samons, Jr. Mrs. Samons was a graduate of Ironton High School and Ohio University with a Masters Degree in Education. She was a former teacher for the South Point School District, retiring after 34 years of service with them. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and of the Methodist faith. She is survived by: a son: Roland "James" Samons III and his wife, Teresa of South Point, Ohio a brother: Danny L. Shafer of Ironton 2 cats: Ashley and Samantha Graveside services will be 1:00 PM Monday, June 10, 2013 in Highland Memorial Gardens with the Rev. James Cremeans officiating. There will be no public visitation. Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 South Seventh Street, Ironton, Ohio is in charge of the arrangements.
