Joyce was my mom.
She was a smart, funny, tough, fearless woman. She could mother, bake, sew, type, all the normal hard working woman things. But she could ride and wrangle horses, tear a room to the studs and rebuild it, make and finish woodwork. She never said I can't. When she said I love you as she paddled us she meant it.
All the things I do as an adult are shaped by the her. I talked with her every morning even though I live far away. Those drives will be longer and...
