Obituary

Juan C. Baldeosingh left the Marines to take a job as sergeant of security at a hospital, where he also assisted as a Spanish translator. From calming difficult situations to providing interpretive services, Baldeosingh was devoted to his duties, said John Lee, a manager at Carteret General Hospital. "There was just something about him. He was such a positive, energetic person and a huge asset to the hospital," he said. "He was very passionate about the job and committed to doing the best job that he could." Baldeosingh, 30, of Newport, N.C., was killed June 29 in Baghdad after an improvised explosive detonated near his vehicle. He was assigned to Wilmington. Baldeosingh was a graduate of Holy Trinity Catholic School in Hicksville, N.Y., and joined the National Guard in June 2008. His family described him as "funny, kind, thoughtful, and a family-oriented man who loved to watch his three daughters dance and make arts and crafts with them." He met his wife, Rebecca, at Camp Lejeune. "I am so proud of him for fighting for our country. He did what he wanted to do and that was to be in the military," said Rebecca Baldeosingh.
