Juan A. Rivera, Sr, 84, passed away March 4 with his family by his side.  He was born in Aibonito, PR on September 7, 1939 to the late Angel and Eulalia Rivera.  Juan worked for over 35 years before retiring from Jahn Foundry.  Juan enjoyed gardening his finca, fishing, playing his guitar, singing, cooking, and hosting family pig roasts.  He was known best for his humor, laughter and ability to “lite up the room” with his storytelling.  Juan leaves his wife Aida Lopez-Rodriguez, his children and their spouses; Carmen and Angel Aponte, Janette and Daniel Rivera, Anthony and Rebecca Rivera, and Juan Jr. and Luz Rivera all of Spfld; his 13 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, several brothers and sisters, many nieces and nephews; and countless stories untold. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held SAT 10 AM in the Cathedral of St. Michael the Archangel, 260 State St., Spfld. Burial will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, 1601 State St., Spfld. Calling Hours will be held FRIDAY from 4 to 7 PM at the CURRAN-JONES FUNERAL HOME, 109 MAIN ST., W. SPFLD. As I remember Juan what first comes to mind was his warmth welcoming spirit special unique personality laced w humor and out right love for all before him...his passion for gardening working mother' s earth producing his fav kalavassa green beans cilantro here at my farm Aida and he were two peas in a pod as they worked diligently together inseparable...they would come to buy fresh eggs and leave special presents at my doorstep pineapple avocado even special hootch(spirits they made) at...

My uncle was a pit master. I have many memories. The Boyer street house was the place to meet. He love to feed people. My aunt Tita And him use to throw down. He will be missed. Love my family and I with them in spirit during this difficult time. Love you all. Rest in peace Tio Juan. You are now with the love of your life to cook up a storm in heaven.
