J M Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc. - Petersburg Obituary

Our hearts were saddened by the sudden passing of our loved one, our beloved Juanita Smith Revish, age 77, of Petersburg, VA. Juanita peacefully entered eternal rest on Thursday, November 14, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at Bon Secours Southside Medical Center. Born on September 1, 1947, in Waverly, VA, to the late Joseph and Annie Mae Smith, Juanita lived a life full of love, faith, and service to those around her.

Juanita was married to the late Russell Revish, and together they made a life in Petersburg, VA, where they raised their cherished daughter, Tamesha, whom she lovingly called, "Boo." The bond between Juanita and Tamesha was extraordinary, marked by unwavering love, support, and a connection that will forever be remembered.

A woman of deep faith, Juanita accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and became a devoted member of Mount Olivet Baptist Church in Petersburg, Virginia. She had a vibrant spirit, always eager to attend services, often preparing for the next Sunday by hanging her clothes in advance. Juanita was known for her punctuality, preferring to arrive early to everything, including her church and family gatherings.
For many years, Juanita worked with AAFES until her retirement. She was known for her culinary talents. She loved cooking and inviting family and friends over for a good ole, home-cooked country meal. She loved having cookouts, hosted many of the Smith Family Reunions and Smith Family First Annual Sleepover, at her home.  Nita loved listening to music. If you visited her in the month of November to January, you would hear the soulful sounds of “Silent Night” by The Temptations, as she prepared her signature dishes. Above all, Juanita believed in the importance of family.  Juanita especially loved sharing time with family and friends, and her home was always open to those who needed a place of comfort and good food.  Nita, as she was affectionately called, was known for her ability to have intimate, heartfelt conversations that never left the room. Her devotion to family extended to her nieces, nephews, and close friends, all of whom were treasured in her life.

Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Annie Mae Smith; her beloved husband, Russell Revish; and her brothers, Ernest Smith, Donald Brooks, Sr., Earl Brooks, Sr., Charles Smith, and Robert Hamlin; and her sisters, Dorothy Vaughan and Lorraine Grimstead.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter, Tamesha Revish of Southfield, MI; brothers, James Brooks, Sr. and Leon Smith both of Waverly, VA; sisters, Celestine Grant of Washington, DC, Doretha Johnson of Ivor, VA, and Sarah Barrow (James) of Waverly, VA; brothers-in-law, Ronald Revish (Celeste) and Virgil Revish of South Chesterfield, VA; sisters-in-law, Izon Johnson Murphy of South Chesterfield, VA and Stacey Revish of North Chesterfield, VA; as well as a devoted circle of friends including, Loretta Turner Majette, Glenice Taylor Smith, Margie Smith, Arletha Dawkins, Gwen Brown, Betsy & Nick Nicholson, Lois Jones, and Gregory Duncan, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Juanita’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Mount Olivet Baptist Church, 800 Augusta Avenue, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Dr. Wesley K. McLaughlin, Pastor, eulogist. The interment to follow at Southlawn Memorial Park.
