Judith Baldwin Obituary - Death Notice and Service Information

Baldwin Judith Baldwin "Giggles" (Age 86) Judith Bryan Murrill Baldwin was born April 1, 1939, in the St. Louis suburb of Bonne Terre to William Bryan and Christina (Kunkel) Murrill. She was proud to be an April Fool's baby. She lived in Flat River, Missouri, where her father worked for the Missouri Department of Transportation. In 1948, they moved to Webster Groves, along with her new best friend, her baby sister Helen. She graduated from Webster Groves High School in 1957. In high school, she developed her love of journalism and served as the managing editor of the school's newspaper. Judy continued her passion for journalism at the University of Missouri School of Journalism. She served on the journalism school production board and was crowned Miss Industrial Journalism. Judy went on to complete her master's in journalism at Mizzou. While at MU, Judy joined Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. She remained active in her sorority's alumni group, earning the Arc of Epsilon Pi for her work on the national magazine and presidency of the local chapter. She was also active in the American Association of University Women (AAUW). On August 4, 1962, she married Ensign Richard Charles "Rick" Baldwin, in Columbia, Missouri. They then began their travels for the U.S. Navy, having four children in four different states. Bridget (TX), Bryan (MO), Jeffrey (WA), and Heather (VA). Having two girls allowed Judy to have the opportunity to become once again involved with Girl Scouts. She became a leader in 1970, following one daughter through the ranks, then turning around and starting anew with the second. Judy worked for the Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital until she retired in 2006. In 1998, while on the Girl Scout staff, she began Camp Firefly. After her retirement, she became the co-director of the camp. For 27 years, she guided, mentored, and entertained countless children. The Girl Scouts of America recognized her work with the Juliette Low Thanks Badge II. Her love of history led her to be a long-standing docent at Sully Historic Site. Judy is survived by her husband of 63 years, Richard. Children; Bridget, Bryan, Jeffrey (Lori), and Heather. Grandchildren; Luke (Sophia), Addie (Jake), Nicole, and Caroline. A memorial Mass will be held Saturday November 8 at 12 noon at Nativity Catholic Church, Burke, VA. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to one of the organizations that Judy was passionate about, Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital, the American Association of University Women, or the Old Dominion Alumni chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta. And, perhaps, you could go out and feed some squirrels for her.
