Not sure what to say?

My sweet Judy is gone - it's really true, isn't it? We met the summer before we entered Emory and I thought she was the most gorgeous, elegant woman I'd ever met - so much presence and self confidence that I sure didn't have at that age! She even found the perfect man, and we know how difficult that is. Eli, I know it's been several years since we communicated, but I had Judy on my mind tonight and couldn't shake the feeling that I wanted to reach out to you and Josh. Blessings on you...

Judith was a wonderful and generous person. I was hired to work on her staff while she was on maternity leave. She graciously accepted a stranger to her department and took the time to teach me how to write business communications, a skill that 16 years of education did not provide. I think of her often and her wish to retire early so she could be with her husband. She was a model manager and mentor, as only a truly giving person can be.

I serendipitous internet search brought me to this site and the news of Judy's passing. Judy and I grew up in Montgomery, Alabama and were friends from junior High school through college. I have treasured that friendship over the years even though we we were rarely in touch after Judy began her career in NYC. Judy already possessed many any of the personality traits mentioned by others here when I knew her (which probably explains why she was my friend--we were an unlikely pair). As I...

Dear Eli, I am so, so very sorry to hear of your wife's passing. I remember the night we met, at Drew and Margie's wedding last October, that you wanted to get home to your wife, who wasn't feeling well. I am sorry I never had the opportunity to meet her--having read the comments in this guest book, it is clear she was a great and gracious lady. I do know that she was, in addition to all the accolades, very fortunate to be married to such a great and gracious man. My deepest condolences to...

Excerpt from letter to Eli Evans from Herb Allison, President, TIAA-CREF 2002 to 2008

"Judith was remarkably gracious, kind and caring person with a superb intellect. Her contributions to the culture and reputation of TIAA-CREF were uniquely valuable. As a person of refinement and impeccable standards, she made certain that our company always presented itself to our clients and employees in the best possible way.

As a colleague, Judith was a special joy. Her astute advice and...

I was very saddened to learn of Judith's passing. Over the years since leaving TIAA-CREF, Judith held a special place in my heart. We kept in touch every now and then. Whether by phone or by mail, her incredible personality and elegance would come shining through. Throughout the years we worked together, she was a true force, a consumate professional, and a good friend.

Eli and Josh, on behalf of me and my family, please accept our deepest condolences. Judith was a great woman...

Judith had so many amazing and positive traits but to simply describe her, one would remember her as a “class act”. Judith was one in a million and she touched both of our lives in countless ways. She was our first real boss and true mentor at TIAA-CREF. We came to her with little business experience and she helped to mold us into what we are today. Judith taught us how to dress for success, business protocol, client relationship skills and work ethic. She led by example and would never...

Judith London Evans at TIAA-CREF

Judith was THE example of what it meant to be an engaged alum. She served as one of Emory's greatest champions, and always look for way to support and promote her alma mater. From hosting and attending events, to helping to recruit students, to commiting more deeply to the causes she most believe in, Judith will always have a special place in the hearts and minds of those associated with Emory Universtiy. We will all miss her very much!
