Berwick, ME – Judith M. Howarth, 70, of 176 Route 236, died Friday July 22, 2005 at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover.

Born in Burnham, ME on June 6, 1935 the daughter of Howard I. and Meda (Sanborn) Libby. She was a former resident of South Berwick and a 1953 graduate of Berwick Academy where she was Valedictorian.

She was a retired employee of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

Judy was a very talented rug hooker, and a member of the Red Hat Society, Red Hat Divas, and made many wonderful friends with these activities.

She was a loving mother who spent many years at home raising her children and is survived by her husband of more than 51 years David W. Howarth, her parents Howard I and Meda Libby of Burnham, ME, a daughter Virginia Steves and her husband John of North Berwick, two sons Ricky Howarth of Berwick, Dan Howarth and his wife Gretchen of Sewell, NJ, two brothers Jerry Libby of Farmington, ME, Steve Libby of East Lyme, CT, a daughter-in-law Beth Ann Howarth of Berwick, six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews .

She was predeceased by two sons Michael Howarth in 1961 and Timothy Howarth in 1997.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McIntire-McCooey Funeral Home, 301 Main St., South Berwick.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday at Our Lady of Peace Church, Berwick with Rev. John Skehan, pastor and Deacon Roger Normand officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot at New Town Cemetery, Rollinsford, NH.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 44 Binney St. Boston, MA 02115-6060 or the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Maine Chapter, 175 Lancaster St., PO Box 8730 Portland, ME 04104.
