Andrews Funeral Home - Gloucester Obituary

Judith (Judy) Ann Kossler, 78, of Gloucester, passed away on December 17, 2024 peacefully at home.

Judy was born on January 11, 1946 to Edward and Mary Cater in Beaver, Pennsylvania.

In 1975 she married William (Bill) Kossler and went on to have 2 children, Mary and Cindy. They moved to Virginia in 1984 and Judy completed a certificate program at Rappahannock Community College as a paraprofessional. She loved working with kids and did so for over 30 years at Botetourt Elementary as a Teacher’s Assistant as well as Gloucester Learning Center. She often encountered previous students in the community which brought her great joy and many cherished memories.

After retirement she and Bill kept busy travelling and spending time with their beloved grandchildren. They were active members of The American Legion and the American Legion Auxillary and participated in numerous community service events.

Judy was always surrounded by a large group of long time friends. They often shared meals and played Bingo. These ladies were such a significant part of Judy's “life-well-lived.”

Judith was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill Kossler; brother, Charles Cater; grandson, Landen Brownley and parents Mary and Edward Cater. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Dorsey (Dean) and Cindy Brownley (Larry); brother Richard Cater (Karen); and grandchildren Noah Dorsey, Brendan Brownley, Aubree Dorsey and Colleen Brownley.

Many thanks to the loving care provided by Sanders Assisted Living and Heron Cove 2 for the past 2.5 years. Your work didn’t go unnoticed and provided mom with joy and new friends in her final years. Additionally, we would like to thank Walter Reed Hospice for the care and support they provided in her final weeks of life.

The family will receive friends at Andrews Funeral Home on Thursday, December 19th from 4 pm to 5 pm with a service to follow. Light refreshments after the service at a location to be announced.

In lieu of flowers please consider donations to the Alzheimers Association or the Gloucester Matthew's Humane Society.
