Not sure what to say?

Juh Wah Chen hired me as an assistant professor in an engineering department at SIU where he served as the department chair. Not only he served as a mentor to me but he befriended me and other young professors as well. I enjoyed playing bridge and poker with him. He and his wife Lin hosted most wonderful dinner parties at their home, whose memories are still fresh in my mind. A most gracious and extremely bright man, Juh Wah will be remembered by everyone who got to know him.

My deepest sympathies to your family. I hope that all his love and his accomplishments will give you fond memories. I had taken classes with Dr. Chen and he was a tough but fair Professor that made sure you learned your stuff. He has seeded many careers with his teaching and leadership as Dean. RIP Dr. Chen

Hi Jeanne- Mary just shared the news of your father passing and I just wanted to say how sorry I am for your loss. What an obituary- he left quite a legacy for you all to be proud of and carry on! Hope to see you one of these days and hope all is well for you and Bob in Cali.

It was my good fortune in the mid 1980's to become placement counselor for the College of Engineering and then its chief fund raiser. During those years I worked closely with Dr. Chen. I learned a great deal from him and considered him a friend who will be greatly missed.

To Dr. Lin Chen and the rest of the family Dagmar and I express our deepest sympathy and sincere condolences. As colleagues in the departments of Mechanical and Civil Engineering respectively, Dr Chen and I enjoyed 30+ years of camaraderie and friendship. He will be sorely missed. Sedat and Dagmar Sami

Our deepest sympathy to Han Lin and the rest of the family. I worked for Dr. Chen for several years in the SIU College of engineering word processing center . Han Lin worked with my mother, Shirley Carlisle, and the department of technology for several years as well. Han Lin would have us over around Christmas time for authentic Chinese meal. Great memories with them.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Dr. Chen's passing. Dr. Chen was my first boss at SIUC. I worked for him from 1986 until his retirement. He was a very kind man and always smiling. When I think of him his smile is what I see. He and Mrs. Chen have touched many lives through their kindness and generosity. He will be deeply missed by many.

My condolences to the Chen family, I went to school with John, and had met Dr. and Mrs. Chen also at one time.
