Not sure what to say?

I'm devastated to read this. I've been away from Grand Rapids since 2015 most of the time! Julia needed an expert on local labor and the labor press in this area for a series of articles she was writing for the Press. I worked closely with her in 2010 before she retired voluntarily to fight her devastating disease. She was so matter-of-fact about it. She let me know she was going to wage war against it. I was in awe of her. Her writing and journalism integrity was simply awesome. In all the...

There must be relief in Julia being free from such a horrible affliction. God rest her soul and God bless George for being a wonderful husband and care giver.

I had such high respect for Julia and her journalism talent as she did a series of stories in the GR Press that I had the privilege of contributing knowledge to her. She then put that material into understandable and informative language for her readers. She had many gifts and a kind soul.

Respectfully,

Julia & George with my sons William & Trevor - what great memories!

Julia will always be my inspiration in the fight against ALS

Dear George, Joy & Family,
I am so sorry to hear of Julia's passing and yet I know that she would want you to be free to enjoy life while she smiles down from above. I had the good fortune of spending time with you in Maryland and at the ALSA Advocacy Days in Washington DC, being part of your fight against ALS. I was also very fortunate to come with my family to visit you in Grand Rapids MI. Thank you for letting myself, my husband Richard and sons William & Trevor be a small part of...

Julia & George were my inspiration for the ALSA NAPA Valley Ride to Defeat ALS

To her family and loved ones. I don't know Julia, nor do I know any of her friends or family. I am a nurse and I do know the devastating effects of ALS. I've read her obituary and I just can't let this moment go by without expressing my profound effect that this courageous women as imparted on me. She has lived...yes lived a full life and left and impactful impression on all that new and loved her. I am no one to her, but she is someone to me. May she rest in peace after her long...

I'm so sad to see this, but glad that Julie's shackles are finally off. What a joy it was to work with her at The Express-Times. God's grace and peace to George and to all of Julie's family and friends. Meanwhile, we'll continue the ALS fight.

So sad to hear this news. I had the honor of working with Julie at The Express-Times, she was one of my favorite people. When she moved, me missed her cooking, humor and friendship. Just a very sad day.
