Seale Funeral Service - Denham Springs Obituary

Affectionately known to all who knew and loved her as JuJu, Julia Erwin Rasberry was surrounded by family and friends when she was called home at 3:33 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3 at the age of 93. She was a rare combination of strength and compassion, the glue that held her family together. She was both nurturing and a problem solver, who never judged, lifted those around her with her positive attitude and was always the boss. She was the third of seven daughters born to Wiley and Rebecca "Reba" Underwood Erwin on Nov. 8, 1919 in Watson, La. She married Herbert Harry Rasberry on March 24, 1940; that union produced two children, Reba Rasberry Lockhart of Maurepas and Herbert Hal Rasberry of Denham Springs. In addition to her children, she is survived by her youngest sister, Iris Harris of Watson, a daughter-in-law, Lanell Rasberry, four grandchildren, John Michael Lockhart, Kayla Lockhart Johnson, Lisa Rasberry Peters and her husband, Paul, Jason Rasberry and his wife, Melita. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, Blake Johnson, Brooke Johnson, Kyle Peters, Justin Peters, Lawson Peters, Richard Lee IV and Richell Lee and five great-great-grandchildren, Parker Johnson, Piper Johnson, Ryann Lee, Adison Salcedo and Aubrey White. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband; five sisters, Rebecca Webb, Alice Mae Braddock, Edna Curry, Elma Miley and a sister who died at birth, and a son-in-law, John Ellis Lockhart. Visitation will be held at Live Oak Methodist Church in Watson, La. Saturday, Sept. 7 from 9:30 a.m. until services at 1:30 p.m. Dr. Mark Crosby will officiate services following visitation. Pallbearers are Reggie Braddock, Tilden Curry, Craig Harris, Blake Johnson, Damon Miley and Jason Rasberry. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Coates, Wiley Harris and Walter Leon Webb. The family would like to thank the staff of Harvest Manor Nursing Home and her special roommate and caregiver during these past four years, Vera Morris. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Live Oak United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 709, Watson, LA 70786.
