KINGSLEY -- Julia "Judy" Swainston, 92, of Kingsley, died Friday, March 17, 2006, in an automobile accident.
She was born May 25, 1913, in Kingsley, the daughter of Adam L. and Bessie (Bean) Chappel. Judy married Claude Swainston.
Judy had retired from Essex Wire in Traverse City. She was a member of Mayfield Chapel and the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved to make quilts, and made one for each of her family members. She also loved the outdoors and enjoyed picking blackberries. Everyone loved her cooking, especially her cobbler. Judy was a loving mother and grandmother.
She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Craig of Interlochen; two sons, Jerry Swainston of Tennessee and Wade (Ginger) Swainston of Arizona; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Darrell (Ann) Chappel, Blaine Chappel and Nobel (Nancy) Chappel; two sisters, Phyllis (Gene) Bembeneck and Nancy (Patrick) Yanski; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Claude Swainston in 1957; her daughter, Carol Sue Swainston; her siblings, Keith and Madeline Chappel and Helen Stauffer; and a great-grandson, Aaron Barr.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 23, at the Mayfield Chapel. The Rev. Thomas Jasperse will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in Judy's name to the Mayfield Chapel, to purchase an evergreen in her honor.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Kingsley Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
