Julia Swann Pittman

Mrs. Pittman was the best teacher I ever had at Freedom high school, she was so kind. She was so beautiful and I feel very blessed to have had her as a teacher and knowing her. You truly touched many who had a learning disabilities. I thank you beautiful soul for being so patient and kind to me. You will be missed. Love Stacey

Oh boy did she have a reputation. One of being very stern and coarse. So, I was destined to have her for home room and English my first year at Freedom. Everyone said, "you don't want to be in her class it's too hard". Well, it was one of my favorite English class's I ever had. She was very funny and nothing like what I had always heard. And she always talked about her sons, and I remember them showing up a time or two, as well. Condolences to family and friends. Godspeed Ms Pittman

Julia, as well as other teachers at Freedom HS, was one of my mentors during my first year of teaching English there. She encouraged me to encourage my students in their writing assignments. That advice helped me tremendously with my future students, who would thank me for helping them become better writers by being patient with their improvement. Mark Massi 1979-80
