We just learned of Ltjg Julian's passing. I was stationed with Ltjg Julian at VQ2 in Rota, Spain, worked for him in the communications dept, he spoke very highly of his family, he had a quick wit, and a real friend to the enlisted during work and parties. We spoke of him during our 30 yr VQ2 reunion in 1996. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
May you find some peace and comfort in your memories of happier times.
He will be missed though never forgotten,
May he rest in peace.

Julian (Ensign)and I flew in the EA-3B in VQ-2 in 1964-65. He was funny, sharp, kind to us enlisted guys, and a great Naval Officer. Just found out about his passing...will let shipmates on Facebook (VQ2 1963-1966 group) know. I am glad I knew him.

Julian was there to offer a hand to me during a very challenging period in my life. He taught me how to be of service to my fellows and my community. His friendship is cherished and will never be forgotten. God bless you and thank you Julian.
Our community has lost an outstanding member.

Our friendship extended almost 30 years. You helped me make sense of much of my very complexed world. I'll never forget your always encouraging words. We shared many likenesses: art, travel, discovery of other lands and cultures, and of course good food. I am found with few words as I just discovered your transitioning. May you be at peace for ever lasting eons. I grieve your passing, but too will pass. Full of smiles for you..

I only learned of Julian's death a week ago last Saturday at the HRC NC dinner. I met Julian through his volunteering and as a community leader in Raleigh NC. He was always cherished and a gift to us all. Several years in a row The Crape Myrtle Festival was lucky enough to have his help. Julian was secluded in a back conference room counting the
monies from the Crape Myrtle galas. His parties at Bishop's Park were legendary. You have shown by example and have inspired me to live a better life. I will continue to try to have my best life in honor of you. You have crossed over the rainbow bridge where you are free at last. I will remember you always!

Julian has been my dear friend ever since Mrs. Ligon's kindergarten and Ravenscroft School in Raleigh. We shared wonderful times at Morehead, at the Lake, and at Chapel Hill. We kept up through the years with telephone calls, letters, and visits. He had an artist's eye and a gift for friendship. I shall miss him more than I can say and send my love and deepest sympathy to his family.

I first met Julian at one of the photography art fairs I participate in (and organize as well). His gentlemanly manner, and his wonderful Southern accent, was a welcome change to what is often a tiring event. His interest, enthusiasm and excitement for photography was always welcome. His eye for excellent work was impeccable. I will miss him. My condolences to his family and friends. The only consolation is that he will live on in the memories of all those who knew him and who were touched by him.

I was so saddened to hear of Julian's passing. I enjoyed sharing with him our passion for collecting photographs. Whenever he came into our gallery he was a breath of fresh air. He had this child like curiosity and thirst for knowledge. We discussed images and life. They became one.

Dear Julian's family,
I knew the "silver fox" as Danny Squires dubbed him from some of the most memorable years of my life, when I resided on Park Ave. Julian was usually immaculately dressed and did not look the part of the typical Park Avenue resident. He was like a dignitary, I guess I could say that Julian was like the mayor of our street. He and Jim Duncan held court at the Focal Point Antique store and we loved them and revered them, as they were our wise elders. He loved to laugh and was game for most any of our adventures. He took any ribbing in great stride and never wavered from his kind and thoughtful ways. Rest in Peace, good friend.

As a Park Ave. alum, Julian was an important part of my life for many years. He was a true Southern gentleman, and I remember fondly wonderful days at the lake house, and late nights at his Park Ave. home. My thoughts go to his family, and to all his friends past and present.
